A Dunk A Day For All Of May - #31DAYSofDUNKS

So here's the deal: A Dunk A Day For All Of May - new, old and in-between.

This idea started while thinking of something to do during May to celebrate my birth month. I knew I was going to be wearing a lot of shoes and at first I was going to go strictly on a un-DS-ing mission "just to do it", then I thought about it ... why deprive myself of some of my faves? I went to the "stockroom" and just started opening boxes (this where it got interesting) a lot of memories started replaying while going through them. After some time passed I narrowed it down to my favorite model, The Dunk. Since its inception in 1985 it has had so many variations, colorways, colabs and changes hopefully this doesn't get boring. So tune in daily for a lil story or history and freshness update ... #31DAYSofDUNKS ... #NOHx2012

MAY 1 - FRANK KOZIK x NIKE SB DUNK HIGH PREMIUM QS

Yeah, that's where we are starting at! This months QS fresh out the box! Military issue, designed by none other than toy designer/pop art legend Frank Kozik. Of whom I've been a fan plus I'm a sucker for olive green and orange colorways. Easy cop. Stay Smorkin'!

MAY 2 - NIKE DUNK HIGH - WHITE / CAROLINA BLUE - PATENT

I picked these joints up at Foot Action Arden back in 2001. Eleven years later they still have an unparalleled feel and quality that a lot of the new Dunks don't (sad to say) This pair has seen a couple of courts and plenty of dance floors, still no cracks in the patent and no busted stitches. The tumbled leather won't hold a crease and the nylon padded tongue and ankles are still fluffy as day 1. The mid-soles have recently started yellowing but they've earned it and I don't mind one bit.

MAY 3 - NIKE DUNK LOW CL - BLACK / MED GREY - NEU GREY - "JOR-DUNK 3"

Probably the most popular piece of an extensive shoe pack, using materials from some of the most sought after / memorable Air Jordans. These were released in 2006 inspired by the infamous Black Jordan 3. Of course you get elephant print along with smooth leather but the black monotony is broken up by a suede toe and nubuck side panels. The grey leather tongue and red branding makes it more official. All set atop a controversial "yellowed" mid-sole. (IMO better than the "vintaged" used on more recent releases) *Side Note: This pair got me one of the best jobs I ever had.

MAY 4 - NIKE SB DUNK HIGH PREM.- WHT / SPORT RED - MID NAVY - "SPRINGSTEEN"

"2 a days" Today was tricky, 1st me and "The BOSS" crashed the midnight premier of The AVENGERS (awesome) which also happened to be STAR WARS DAY (double awesome) 1st selection was this fraying denim and canvas stripped clad joint inspired by NJ native Bruce Springsteen’s "Born In The USA" album cover. Just a good ol’ slice of Americana that Capt. Steve Rodger’s would wear proudly!

NIKE SB DUNK MID PRO - BLACK / SAIL - VARSITY RED

The next shoe was a sleeper, no hype, no nickname, no worry of release date, just a really solid shoe (that went extra hard with my Vader shirt)! The front half of this dunk mid consists of mostly thick suede in sail and black with red being placed on the toe and ankle. Red also pops off the shoe in the branding and mid sole stitching. The placement of the black & olive canvas adds style and support / structure to the rear half of the shoe. It’s not a premium but with the zoom air insole and quality of materials it definitely feels like one (I know, I know but Jedi, Fetts or Tauntaun would of been too easy lol) #MayTheForthBeWithYou

MAY 5 - NIKE SB DUNK HIGH PRO - SPORT RED / WHITE - "BIG GULP"

If you know me then you know why this shoe is a MUST HAVE for the collection. Yeah I’m double cuppin’ on these. Classic red suede and perforated leather uppers with a patent leather white swoosh layered on top. Of course I went with the green straw laces. Coke brown guts and the 7-11 colored tongue tag round out the image. Thirsty Much?

MAY 6 - NIKE SB DUNK LOW PREMIUM - BLACK / BALTIC BLUE - "ANGELS & DEMONS"

A simple shoe at first glance but clean none the less. Soft vintaged black leather makes up a majority of the shoe giving it flex and comfort. The toe & stuffed tongue are a twill/denim make up. Layered leather swooshes. The black denim ankle tab is just a added touch of style. Also there is a controversial insole depicting a harp playing angel and a angry demon ...

MAY 7 - NIKE SB DUNK LOW PREMIUM - LT BRITISH TAN / METALLIC GOLD - "GIBSON"

These joints should be familiar to all my guitar players out there. Design based of the famous vintage Gibson Guitar cases. The majority of the shoe is soft aged brown leather. The metallic gold leather on the swooshes represents the gold clasps closures. The most interesting part of this shoe in the fuzzy pink liner and currency found on the zoom air insole. The translucent mid sole is also a great touch. There's also a story behind this pair, if you see me in em' ask about it LOL

MAY 8 - NIKE SB DUNK LOW PRO - JERSEY GOLD / CASCADE BLUE-NATURAL

One of four pairs of Hemp based color ways introduced by NIKE SB back in 2004 (Liam Sean Martin was killing it) ... NO SB ON THE TONGUE !!! Full woven hemp uppers, suede swoosh and ankle tabs. The full gum mid sole made these an easy cop! Thanks Dale.

MAY 9 - NIKE DUNK HIGH - WHITE / VARSITY RED - BLACK 317982-162

Classic color blocking on this Dunk High takes it back to the College colors of 1985. White tumbled leather covers the toe box and sidewalls while smooth varsity red leather takes control of the rest. Nylon padded tongue and ankle collar for comfort and support.

MAY 10 - NIKE SB DUNK LOW PRO - LT GRAPH / PRISM VIOLET - "PURPLE PIGEON"

A standout among a class of stellar kicks. 2006 brought a bunch of hits for SB, this being a GR release made it even more crazy. Long suede and smooth suede combined nicely with purple suede branding. Having a slight resemblance to Jeff Staples monster, they were dubbed the "Purple Pigeon" by the nicknamers. Personally its in my top 5 releases from the Black Box Era.

MAY 11 - NIKE SB DUNK HIGH PRO - FOREST / VARSITY RED - "DR. FEELGOOD"

IT'S MY BIRTHDAY AND I'M FEELING GOOD! Had to pull out these Gold Box beauties. Bright lizard green embossed suede matched to the forest green tumbled leather and nylon tongue. Smooth red leather swoosh and accents pop off the shoe hard. Part of the "Rock & Roll" pack. Design idea snatched from Montly Crue's 1989 album of the same name.

MAY 12 - NIKE TRAINER DUNK HIGH - MITA

MAY 13 - NIKE SB DUNK HIGH PREMIUM - TEAM RED / BLK - YELLOW OCHRE - "IRON-MAN"

Took the mini monstas to see The Avengers today (3rd times a charm) and so I took The Mach 3 for a run. This is an outstanding colorway. To start the team red and a burgundy-ish suede play well together over most of this high top, with a few hits of yellow on the out sole, the sock liner and canvas under swoosh. The upper swoosh is a  black "candy coated" patent leather with a flake. The black mid sole helps ground out the shoe. Comes with yellow secondary laces but IMO the black joints help even out the colors. Still wish NIKE would do more licensed products BUT I guess they have "the why pay, when we can get close" mentality, still works every time.

MAY 14- NIKE

MAY 15 - NIKE SB DUNK MID PREMIUM - PEACOCK / PEACOCK 314381-331

Peacock teal suede holding gold filigree toe, side walls and ankle collars. A touch of red can be found lining the inner ankle and tongue. Side note this strapped mid has the metal loop, not the plastic joint that is placed on the new strapped mids. Clerks Pack Quick Strike

MAY 16NIKE SB DUNK LOW PREMIUM - GOLD / ATLANTIC BLUE  - "NEW CASTLE"

Drinks on me! Designed with a certain brown ale in mind. Full suede uppers, double leather swooshes. 2008 was a good year.

MAY 17 - NIKE DUNK HIGH - NEUTRAL GREY / WHITE - LIGHT CHARCOAL 317982-011

Contrasting grey leathers with white highlight, this Dunk high is simply FRESH!

MAY 18 - DUNK LOW NKE 6.0 - QUASAR PURPLE / CREAM

Dating back to 06 this NIKE 6.0 is very nice.

MAY 19 - NIKE SB DUNK LOW PREMIUM - NEU GREY / GREEN SPARK - BLACK - "LOON"

This joint was one I hoped would happen. Distinctively different from the original "friends & family" release but still very nice. Stolen from a raw pair of Zoom Tres back in 07 and slapped on a Premium Dunk Low in 2010. The stitched dots and stripes represents the feathers of Minnesota’s state bird, The Loon (where Sissi is from). Another killer designed by Todd Bratrud and Rob Sissi.
